Student of the Month: Alison

Here’s Alison, the youngest Student of the Month so far! She’s six years old, she’s been playing guitar for less than a year, and she’s loving it. Alison gave her first performance at last October’s Showcase, singing and playing “Old MacDonald” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep.” She’s upping the challenge lately, polishing up Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” for the next Showcase while also working on the Pitch Perfect version of “Cups (When I’m Gone).”

I have a lot of fun teaching Alison, because she has a taste for simple traditional tunes as well as more complex pop songs. Case in point, the next two songs in her queue are the quick and simple “Apples and Bananas” and The Lumineers’ tricky “Ho Hey.” I’m looking forward to tackling those and much more as Alison’s musicianship blooms.
